I like to play with contrast and scale.
My interest in contrast is inspired by Betsey Johnson. Betsey does a wonderful job at taking things that shouldn’t work and makes them work anyway.
This piece is a toned down version of that idea.
We see a beautiful cat (inspired by Coco Kitty) on what appears to be the arm of someone who is dressed to the nines.
You may think that it’s not that interesting on the surface but diving deeper, using our imaginations we can make up stories like perhaps this person was at a swanky party and all they cared to do was find and hang out with this cat. Why? They got dressed up, made it to the party just fine. Maybe this person is introverted. Maybe they’re drunk. Maybe both? Or maybe our love for cats surpasses all else.
This is the reason I do these illustrations. I love creating stories and capturing them in a way that is much more interesting than they should be.
